Yuta Hagiwara

A theater director and the leader of Kamome Machine company based in Tokyo. He started working in theater while a student at Waseda University. He won the 13th Aichi Arts Foundation Drama Award and the Toga Engeki Jin Konkūru Award in 2016; Directing credits include Waiting for Godot in Fukushima, performed after Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant disaster, Happy Days by Samuel Beckett and Telephone Theater Series, in which performances are staged using a dial telephone as the theatrical platform. Telephone Theatre Series in which the actors perform one-on-one performances for a single spectator over a telephone. In 2018 he participated in Theatertreffen International Forum in Berlin. He is a Saison Fellow 1 for 2022-23. In 2024, he founded Japan-China Contemporary performance exchange project. He was selected for the Asian Cultural Council New York Fellowship and THE LABORATORY FOR GLOBAL PERFORMANCE AND POLITICS Global Lab Fellows 2024-26.

Suguru Yamamoto

Writer/Director

Suguru Yamamoto is an author (artist?), director, actor, and the leader of theatrical collective HANCHU YUEI. He is constructing a theatrical world that vividly reflects the contemporary information society, in which outlooks on ethics are being transformed at an accelerating pace. He has a wide-ranging repertory including the Series Adults and Children, for enjoyment by both young and old, and workshops directed to youth and welfare facilities. He has additionally staged shows, participated in international coproductions, and provided plays to troupes in other Asian countries and North America. He won the 66th Kishida Kunio Drama Award for his play Banana Flower Can Be Eaten. He is a fellow of the Saison Foundation.
